Unfortunately, one can only find Reese’s Miniature Cups as a sugar free option. Like most chocolate products, sugar is a very important ingredient in the treats. This product is especially great for people suffering from diabetes. This is because it uses sugar alcohols such as maltitol, in place of the usual sugar. (Maltitol is broken down by the body much more slowly and causes a much smaller rise in blood sugar levels. This is a really important fact for consumers who need to keep their levels stable).
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were invented by Harry Burnett Reese. He worked in Hershey, Pennsylvania at a dairy farm owned by The Hershey Company. Reese enjoyed making candy on his free time and was a true entrepreneur. In 1928 he invented Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup using Hershey’s chocolate. He began making candy on a large scale, and started his own business selling what he produced through different retailers. By 1935 he had become a success and began to make profits. During World War II, it was too expensive to continue making all of his candy products so he decided to solely produce his top profit and most popular item, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. When Reese died in 1956, the company passed to his oldest sons who merged the H.B. Reese’s Candy Company with Hershey Chocolate Corporation.
An Interesting Fact:
Hershey separates their Hershey Chocolate factory from the Reese’s factory. They separate the factories because the H.B Reese’s Candy Company workers are not unionized and the Hershey chocolate factory workers are. In addition, the H.B Reese’s Candy Company factory produces Hershey’s Kit Kats.
